Women and Safety: Building Inclusive Cities, Jagori (awaken, women)
Jagori commissioned Lucida to generate content in the form photographs, text, video, posters, maps accompanying the Third Women’s safety International Conference held in Delhi looked at issues of safety for women across the world, but primarily in Indian cities, through the lens of transport.
Photographic Project,Street Lights – The series of pictures highlights the effect a basic civic infrastructure like streetlight or lack of it thereof has an on the issues of women safety and mobility. This series of portraits of women who were out in the night were made under the streetlights, literally bringing into light a pocket of perceived safe space beneath these lights. The function of the streetlight could thus be deemed empowering, but even in this space we see overt glances and encounters being played out.
During this project, Lucida conducted Photography workshops with the slum dwellers(youth) and gave them disposable cameras to express the issue of safety in their own locality.
